Avant Pop is a brand new show for NNBC presented by Nathan Wiseman-Trowse. The show will be playing the very best in alternative music form the 1960s to the present day, everything from the Velvet Underground to The Moonlandingz.
Avant Pop is going to be a great opportunity to play those tracks that sit a little left of centre, from indie, through psychedelia, electronica, alt-folk, post-rock and beyond. We’ll play a few tracks you might know and a few things that I reckon you probably should if you don’t! Each week I’ll also be highlighting bands and artists from the region whose work wanders across the tracks a little.
When Nathan’s not presenting at NNBC he is Associate Professor in Popular Music at the University of Northampton. Nathan’s played in numerous Northampton acts including Pretty Dead Girls, Electric Hairfeast, Coot and Mantrahead, worked in far too many record shops (including Northampton’s legendary Spinadisc Records) and DJd around the region. He is the author of two books, Nick Drake: Dreaming England and Performing Class in British Popular Music and he is currently researching British indie culture and the music of Radiohead.
