Three local heroes were recognised for their work in our community as part of the NLive Christmas Day breakfast show.
Richard Beeby started the surprises by recognising the work of Darren Jones who volunteers for Elsies Cafe, part of the Real Junk Food Project. Darren spoke to Richard on the show about the festive feast the group was cooking up for those in our community that would struggle to afford a festive meal. Darren was giving up his Christmas day, along with a team of volunteers, to lead the event which was set to welcome around 50 people. Thanks to our friends at Castle Theatre, Wellingborough we were able to recognise Darren’s work and he will be going along to the theatre to enjoy the performance of ‘Wizard of Oz’ on Boxing Day.
Later in the show Richard was joined by Kelly McAlinden and Claire Irving who have led the ‘Chocolate Elf’ project this year in our community. Thanks to the support of our community, the two of them have ensured many disadvantaged people in our community woke up to a gift of a selection box this Christmas Day. In total 1589 advent calendars and 5114 selection boxes were gifted this year. Thanks to Clary’s Restaurant at Aspers Kelly and Claire will be enjoying a meal for two in the new year – well deserved too!
The show was rounded off by a visit by the Mayor and Mayoress of Northampton, Cllr Gareth Eales and Cllr Terrie Eales. They joined Richard in the studio to chat all things christmas, current projects and their plans for the day. They also shared some of their favourite music with us.
Don’t forget to join Richard for your breakfast every weekday morning from 7am – 10am.
