Northampton Mental Health, LGBTQ+ and youth charity, The Lowdown, is launchign an incentive scheme for under 25s to get themselves tested for STIs.
STI numbers are climbing at an alarming rate and nearly half of all new cases are found in people under 25. Gonorrhea cases up by a massive 249%, and someone is diagnosed with an STI every 70 seconds.
Staff at The Lowdown were shocked by these statistics, and decided to up the ante. STI testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea is one of the services they have always offered to local young people and they would much rather have them take a test than continue to be at risk.
So they are doing something about it.
Yo get across the message that it is okay to take care of your body, and that taking an STI test is not something to feel ashamed about, they are encouraging young people to go into their base on Kingswell Street with an incentive.
They are offering any person between the ages of 14 and 25 living in Northampton the chance to enter into a prize draw to win £50; all they have to do is pop in and take a test before the 8th of March. Winners will be announced shortly after.
