BBC Sports Editor Dan Roan was among honorands at the UoN graduation ceremonies this week.

He told N Live that it was one of “the proudest days of my life” and “I grew up here and I’ve always rooted for Northampton. It is an underdog town surrounded by much bigger places.”

Students have been presented with their degrees at ceremonies throughout the week held at Royal & Derngate.

UoN Chancellor the Rev Richard Coles reflected on the hot summer of 1976, the birth of punk and a time of change and challenge.

He told the graduates: “You are much better prepared for change than we were.”

He added that he wished them prosperity because “don’t forget, in the future your prosperity has to fund our social care.”
