Be Joyful – Wear Upcycled! The Northamptonshire woman fighting fast fashion
Written by Robert Mullane on July 20, 2021
Olesya Lane’s upcycled fashion brand Slow Fashion Bus was started to promote joyful upcycled clothing by teaching how to mend and upcycle.
Olesya told NLive Radio upcycling is something she has been passionate about for over 30 years: “It all started when I had my first upcycling project around 30 years ago, it was my dad’s t-shirt and I transformed it into a top for myself. Little did I know that this will become my passion.”
The name Slow Fashon Bus came from Oleysa’s plans to travel the country teaching people to upcycle: “I wanted to travel around the uk and show people basic stiches, I would give sowing kits away something basic to start… and I would talk about the harm fast fashion has and upcling, mending and all these things. I imagined myself on a bus going arround the country and the word slow opposes fast fashion.”
As part of our Greener and Cleaner Northampton campaign, we spoke with Olesya to find out more about upcycled fashion.
