Calling Good Neighbours
Written by nlive on November 25, 2020
VIN is now working with the Lottery Community Fund and Northamptonshire Community Foundation to deliver Good Neighbour Schemes in Northampton.
What is a Good Neighbours Scheme?
Good Neighbour Schemes are a way of local people coming together as volunteers and helping others in their community. A community could be a street, an area or a development or estate.
Why Good Neighbours?
Traditionally communities have often helped themselves, ensuring that the elderly or the isolated or supported in some way. During the outbreak of C19, thousands of volunteers helped others with essential shopping supplies and medical prescription delivery. Good Neighbour schemes are an extension of this, and while they are generally geared towards the elderly they do not have to be. Young people can be just as isolated as others.
What support can we get?
You might need some support and information to start a Good Neighbours Scheme and VIN is here to help and advise.
You might need a small budget to help with essential equipment or supplies, and VIN has income with which to use in this regard.
You might need some group training. VIN can supply this to meet your needs.
What do we need?
What you will need though is a few volunteers who have passion and energy and want to support their local community. One of those would need to facilitate, and keep records of your activities.
