Chefs at an award-winning Northampton restaurant have come up with a special blend of herbs and spices to create the perfect dish for Cobblers fans ahead of Northampton Town’s appearance at Wembley on Monday.
The team at Saffron, in Castilian Street, have created the Cobbler Curry in honour of Keith Curle’s promotion-hunting side and the dish will be on sale from tonight until Monday for the make or break League 2 play-off clash with Exeter City.
The barbecued chicken dish is a carefully crafted blend of fresh ingredients including garlic, ginger, coriander and Thai sweet chillies, guaranteed to give the game added spice and fire up football fans watching on from home.
Saffron general manager Rana Rahman said: “Monday promises to be a special day for Northampton and we wanted to show our support for the Cobblers by getting right behind them and creating a curry for the occasion.
“Keith Curle has done a fantastic job since arriving at Sixfields and we’re right behind him and the boys. It’s devastating for fans not to be allowed to go to what could be one of the club’s biggest ever games but we want them to cheer on their team from their sofa while tucking into some great food.”
Throughout lockdown, Saffron has offered NHS and emergency staff 50 per cent off all collection orders and they have now extended the offer to also include Cobblers season ticket holders until the restaurant reopens on Saturday, July 4.
Mr Rahman, a lifelong Cobblers fan, said: “We have made a point of honouring our local heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic so it’s only fair we do something now to mark the achievements of our football club as well. We can’t wait to welcome our customers back to the restaurant and hopefully we will be celebrating promotion with them all.”
