NLive station manager Martin Steers continued his series of interviews with senior members of the University of Northampton yesterday, speaking to Wray Irwin Director of Enterprise and Employability about reaching and supporting communities, students and staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Wray Irwin told NLive he’s getting used to working from home, “the first couple of weeks I found it quite difficult adjusting to it, particularly just not being with other work colleagues… Over recent weeks it’s sort of become the new normal”.
Supporting and keeping students involved with the university has been an important role of his department, “one of the big things for us has been around keeping students connected to the university to help provide a channel for them to get into communities. Our students, they always want to get involved they are passionate about working with other people and doing the best they can for other people”.
Wray Irwin’s team has also been providing support for student-run businesses, “the team have been looking at how we can provide survival support for student start-up businesses, no matter where they are in the country or even in fact across the world… how we can lever some of our support to provide short term grant funding for them and additional business support to help them survive what is a difficult time”.
