Lawes and Biggar to miss vital Northampton Saints games

Written by on April 21, 2022

As well as losing the match against Gloucester last Saturday, Northampton Saints have lost their two Six Nations Captains for their Premiership game at Bath on Saturday April 23.

England captain Lawes left the field after only 15 minutes because of an injury.

He was later diagnosed with a compound dislocation of his thumb where the bone even broke through the skin.

It is currently unknown just how long the lock will be out of action.

Director of Rugby Chris Boyd said: “Until we get a clearer medical view, all I can say is that he won’t play on Saturday.”

Courtney Lawes may not play on the Franklin’s Gardens pitch again this season

Wales captain Biggar has been banned for three matches after a dangerous tackle on Gloucester’s Chris Harris during Saturday’s defeat.

Biggar is set for a month on the sidelines due to Saints’ two-week break after the Bath fixture, and will also miss the games against Harlequins and Saracens.

Scrum-half Alex Mitchell says that the team are still confident despite the absence of Lawes and Biggar:

“They’re such big players and such big leaders on the pitch so they’ll be a big miss,” he said. “But we’ve got players like [James] Grayson and George [Furbank] that can step in that position and plenty of players in the back row who have just got back fit.” he added.
