Northampton Town Women winning streak was halted at the weekend in a 1-0 FA cup upset to St Ives Ladies. A match up between two strong teams which saw Bianca Luttman sent off for Northampton, it was an unfortunate defeat which could of gone either way.
Northampton attacked the St Ives goalkeeper throughout the first half with Abbie Brewin shooting from outside the penalty area forcing a good save. Cesca Partridge continued to test the keeper multiple times and was unfortunate not to score. Northampton went in at half time 1-0 down after a goal from St Ives forward which had managers Josh and Lou questioning the referee’s decision not to give a free kick Northampton’s way.
A double substitution sore Abbie Reboul and Alex Bartlett come on for Gracie Williams and Nai Dauncey as Northampton continued to press for an equaliser. Northampton switched to a 3-4-3 formation but were then set back after having Bianca Luttman sent off for a challenge on the opposition player.
They continued to attack the St Ives defence with substitute Alex Bartlett coming close forcing a good save from the St Ives keeper in the final 10 minutes. Northampton were awarded a corner in the dying embers of the game, which saw goalkeeper Jo Daniel come into the oppositions area but they just couldn’t get that equalising goal.
