UHLSPORT United Counties League-Premier Division – Cogenhoe United 1 v Rothwell Corinthians FC 1

A cold Tuesday night at Compton park saw Cogenhoe host Rothwell in the United counties league. Rothwell started the better team testing Cogenhoe keeper Bradley Lashley number of times in the opening twenty minutes of the game. The high press of Rothwell was causing problems for the home side allowing free kicks and corners coming out of the result. Rothwell’s full-back Louis Burges long throws was also a bonus for Rothwell and this was causing problems for Cogenhoe’s backline.
Rothwell’s continued high-press and set-pieces broke the deadlock at the twenty-five-minute mark. A free-kick from Rothwell winger Tyler Nat-Gasnall found Nathan Bobowicz in the box to put the away team ahead at Compton Park. Rothwell could have doubled their lead at the stroke of half-time with Nathan Bobowicz coming close but just putting it past the post.
Rothwell started the better side again in the second half and the long throws from Louis were the main threat for Rothwell as the backline and keeper were continued to be pressured and tested. Cogenhoe did have a good chance to equalise at the start of the second half but Cogenhoe forward Jordan Orosz just put it wide after a fantastic through ball from Carter Price.
Rothwell could of went two up after a corner led to a goal scramble with Rothwell players claiming the ball went over the line but the referee allowed play to continue. Rothwell felt they should be 2-0 up but five minutes later the home side equalised from a goal scramble from a corner leaving half-time substitute Nat Ansu to tuck it home to bring the score level for Cogenhoe.
Rothwell continued to press the backline and after another dangerous throw from Cogenhoe full-back, Louis Burges led to another goal scramble with another penalty appeal for Rothwell but again the referee allowed play to continue. The Rothwell team and bench showed their frustration towards the referee resulting in Rothwell defender Callum Plowright yellow carded and was sin-binned meaning he missed the remainder of the game.
Despite being down to ten men for the remainder of the game, Rothwell ended the game the better side and another long throw from Cogenhoe full-back Louis found the head of Will Bates who just put it wide.
The game drew to a close and both teams took a point. Rothwell host Rugby Town at home next on Saturday the 3rd of October and Cogenhoe face Peterborough Nothern Star at home.
