Around 2.5m people, over 7% of adults across the UK, either cannot read or have very poor reading ability. There are a multitude of reasons why some reach adulthood without being able to read but in every case the impact on individuals and their families is massive. Read Easy is a national charity which provides a volunteer-led reading coaching programme for adults. Our group provides free, confidential, one-to-one coaching for adults in north, west and south Northamptonshire who struggle with reading.

To enable visually impaired adults, children and families in Northamptonshire live life to the full by providing advice, support, services and equipment that can help reduce the impact of sight loss.

Volunteering in Northampton town centre every Friday and Saturday night, Northampton Guardians are dedicated to supporting the safety and wellbeing of those enjoying the night-time economy. We operate in close partnership with the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC), Northamptonshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Northampton Street Pastors, and a wide range of local venues. Together, we share one unified objective: To create a safer, more supportive environment for all women and men who visit the town during busy weekend nights. Our volunteers provide a visible, approachable presence on the streets, offering assistance, reassurance, and practical support to anyone who may be vulnerable, distressed, or in need of guidance. Whether it’s helping individuals get home safely, offering welfare support, or working alongside emergency services during busy periods, our aim is always to safeguard the public and contribute positively to the overall nightlife experience.

The Churches Conservation Trust is the national charity protecting churches at risk. We care for the churches and work with local communities to bring them to life again. Our buildings are a living part of their communities, providing a centre for local activities and reaching out to those who have not historically been associated with the church.

At NDAS, we believe everyone has the right to live their lives free from harm and abuse. For 50 years we have been committed to saving, reclaiming and improving the lives of individuals and families that are affected by domestic abuse. We work intensively with survivors both in refuge and in the wider community to ensure they have all the practical and emotional support required, to move forward with their lives. With nine refuges across the county, we offer groupwork and outreach sessions along with an advice line service to ensure support is there when it's needed most.

Guide Dogs is one of the UK’s leading sight loss charities and we’re here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose. We couldn’t continue our vital work without the public's generous donations and our amazing volunteers. There are so many ways to get involved - from volunteering to help us raise a puppy or give a home to a guide dog mum and her pups, to supporting our campaigns, or rehoming one of our retired guide dogs. https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/how-you-can-help/

We recruit volunteers to befriend children and young people in care to have a one-to-one professional friendship across Northamptonshire. We recruit, train and carefully match volunteers based on their shared hobbies and interests. We offer support and supervision to matched volunteers and oversee the match for the duration of the friendship. We pay monthly expenses and mileage for visits and require a minimum of a monthly visit for four hours. Due to the nature of this role, we require a minimum of a two-year commitment and all volunteers are required to undergo safer-recruitment checks and an enhanced DBS check.
